February : British National Bashed By Pattaya Jetski
Operators. |
A British national who rented
a Jetski from a Pattaya Beach operator has been attacked and severely
beaten following an argument over the victim having allegedly damaged
the Jetski he had rented.
At approximately 8:00pm on
Friday, police Lieutenant Colonel Supphachai Puikumkaew (Pattaya
Police Investigator) was confronted by Mr. David John Marshall [62], a
British national.
Mr. Marshall presented
himself to Pattaya Police, suffering from a severely swollen face,
black eye and broken tooth.
He reported to police that he
had been bashed by a group of Thai men after hiring a Jetski from a
Pattaya Beach operator close to Soi 13 on Pattaya Beach Road.
Mr. Marshall explained that
he was staying, with a group of friends, at the Heaven Hotel in Soi
13, Pattaya Beach Road.
Before the attack occurred,
Mr. Marshall and his 3 friends had been approached by a group of Thai
men who offered them to rent some jetski’s at a cost of 1,400 baht
per person for 1 hour.
Agreeing and paying the money
the group then rode the jetski’s around in Pattaya Bay for
approximately 1 hour before returning to the beach.
It is alleged that once the
group had returned the jetski’s the operators inspected the
vehicles, before explaining that Mr. Marshall will have to pay for
damages done to the bottom of the Jetski he was riding.
Mr. Marshall claims, that he
calmly tried to explain to the operator that he was not responsible
for any damage evident on the Jetski, as he had not been involved in
an accident or hit anything in the water.
He subsequently refused to
pay the man any money for the damages.
The argument became very
heated, ending with the three Thai Jetski operators attacking Mr.
Marshall before another two Thai men walking past the incident also
joined in on the attack.
Mr. Marshall was able to
escape the onslaught, but not before being hit several times in the
face causing him numerous injuries.
Officers obtained Mr.
Marshall’s statement before sending him to the Pattaya Memorial
Hospital for treatment.
An investigation will
commence in an attempt to apprehend the 5 offenders.
Note: The Pattaya Daily News
team will investigate this incident further in an attempt to uncover
the whole story, which in our opinion, at present appears rather
vague.

February : Park Memorial Will Remember Tragic Toddler. |
By Stuart Taylor
West Lochaber residents are
joining forces to create a permanent memorial to a toddler who died
last year following a horror accident.
Four-year-old Caleb Cameron
died in a Glasgow hospital in September after being struck by a jet
ski while he played at the pier near his home at Kilchoan, west
Ardnamurchan.
Now villagers and friends of
his bereaved parents, Bert and Gael Cameron, and his three year-old
sister, Holly, have set their sights on raising more than £80,000 to
construct a play park in Caleb's memory.
The 156-strong community has
so far banked more than £6,500 from a variety of fund-raising events.
And they are hoping for a
major boost when a party of 10, comprising dads and friends, undertake
a sponsored five-day walk on the West Highland Way between Milngavie
and Fort William, starting on April 1.
Rosemary Curtis, chairman of
the local community council and also a member of the play park
committee, said:
"These will be the only
play facilities for miles since the closure of the park at
Glenborrodale.
"We want to raise as
much money as we can so we will be making application to various
agencies.
"We have been gifted
land at the rear of the community centre and will be applying for
planning permission soon."
Mrs Cameron said the park
would be a fitting tribute to her son Caleb.
A spokesman for the Crown
Office said Caleb's death is still under investigation and no decision
has been made yet regarding the holding of a fatal accident inquiry.
Caleb received head injuries
when the jet ski, understood to have been ridden by a friend of the
family, came out of the water and struck him.
He was initially treated by a
nurse at the scene while a team of specialists from Glasgow were flown
to Kilchoan.
The death stunned the
close-knit community, and there was standing room only at Kilchoan
Parish Church for the youngster's funeral service.

Hundreds of spectators

event.
More than 50 riders from
around the UK were competing in a variety of disciplines at the Jet
Sport Racing Association's winter championship.
It is the first time the
national championship has been held at Stanton Lakes.
About 300 spectators braved
the cold conditions to watch races in the beginner and pro-am classes,
as well as the freestyle competition, where riders aimed to get the
better of each other with a two-minute routine.
Site manager and race
organiser James Cornell said:
"It's always great to
watch, especially the freestyle class where you get to watch loads of
tricks and stunts.
"The racing is pretty
exciting too – it can get quite hairy when they get up to 80mph and
are battling it out side by side.
"I can really recommend
it to anyone who likes fast-paced sport and exciting races."
The races were part of a
ranking event in the JSRA winter championships.

February : Brit
In 'Mission Impossible' Nighttime Raid On Japanese Whaling Vessel. |
By Richard Shears
A British man has taken part
in a dramatic Mission Impossible-style raid on a Japanese whaling ship
under cover of darkness, helping a colleague board the vessel with the
intention of making a citizen's arrest of the captain.
Briton Larry Routledge drove
a jetski carrying New Zealand anti-whaling protester Pete Bethune to
the side of the Japanese vessel Shonan Maru 2, then watched as Bethune
scaled the ship's side and smuggled himself aboard.
The dramatic assault on the
Japanese vessel was still being played out during the hours of
darkness in the UK.
Mr Bethune planned to remain
in hiding on the ship until daybreak when he intended to make a
citizen's arrest of the Japanese captain.
The Briton and Mr Bethune,
the former captain of the state-of-the-art vessel Ady Gil, which was
sunk recently by a Japanese ship, set out from the Sea Shepherd vessel
Steve Irwin on their daring 'ambush' under cover of darkness.
Sea Shepherd officials
revealed that Mr Bethune had 'successfully boarded' the Japanese ship
on a mission to attempt a citizen's arrest of the captain for the
destruction of the Ady Gil and attempted murder of the six Ady Gil
crew members.
Sea Shepherd officials said
Briton Mr Routledge managed to manoeuvre the jetski into position
under the anti-boarding spikes along the port side of the Shonan Maru
2.
In what has been described as
a seemingly impossible mission, Bethune then made a life-threatening
jump and managed to clamber onto the whaling ship without being
noticed.
He immediately went into
hiding to await sunrise and make his presence known.
With him he has a bill for £1.5million
to present to the Japanese captain for the cost of replacing the Ady
Gil.
'Captain Bethune will be
demanding that the Shonan Maru 2 captain surrender himself to Sea
Shepherd or take his ship to the nearest Australian or New Zealand
port to turn himself in to legal authorities,' said the protest group.
'Captain Bethune will make it
clear that he does not wish to return to a Sea Shepherd ship without
the Captain of the Shonan Maru 2.
'Sea Shepherd anticipates
that the Japanese will hold Captain Bethune as prisoner on board the
Shonan Maru 2.'
Captain Paul Watson, skipper
of the Steve Irwin, said in a radio telephone call: 'This was an
impossible mission.
'Captain Bethune boarded a
Japanese whaling fleet security ship at high speed in total darkness,
breached the spikes and anti-boarding nets and is presently on board.
'The Japanese crew are still
not aware that he is there. He is there to demand justice for the
sinking of his ship.'

| 2nd
February : Beach Rock Pimp & Hoe Party. |
Hopefully now that the
weather is getting a bit better that you might be thinking of getting
ready for the Spring and want something to look forward to.
Please come and join us for a
bit of a laugh on the 24 April 2010 for a pre season party at the
Lighthouse Pub at Walcott.
We are trying to raise money
for Sea Palling Inshore Lifeboat and East Anglia Air Ambulance.
We have got lots of surprises
going on inside the marquee and it will be a good night - door opens
at 7.00pm.
Tickets are available at the
shop or we can send them out to you.
There will be no tickets sold
on the night so please give us a ring on 01692 598000.
There is camping available at
the pub and depending on numbers we may even sort out taxis or mini
bus from Sea Palling.
We are also donating half the
launch money from the weekend to the charities so please de-winterise
your Waverunner and get your drysuit to hand.
We hope you can come along
and support this fundraiser.
Any question please do not
hesitate to give us a call.

Regards
