26th August : Jet-Ski Rider Towed To Safety.
A JET-SKI and its rider had to be towed to shore by Burnham lifeboat crews on Saturday.
The machine was found south of Brean Down at 12noon.
Its rider Luke Newport from Bristol, had been cruising with his friend Adam Brown, when his engine had refused to start.
Adam beached at Brean to borrow a towrope but he was unsuccessful.
The lifeboat then had to be launched to tow Luke back to Burnham to prevent Luke drifting with the outgoing tide.

25th August : Rescue Services Busy Weekend.
by Eryl Crump
A man was airlifted to hospital after two jetskis collided off a Gwynedd beach yesterday.
The rescue was one of several handled in waters off the North Wales as coastguards began a 48-hour strike in a dispute over pay.
Paramedics and an inshore lifeboat were alerted to Black Rock sands near Porthmadog by a 999 call at 1.14pm.
A Criccieth RNLI spokesman said: “It was reported that two jetskis had collided and one man was injured. The boat was launched but by the time the crew got to the scene the injured man had been brought ashore.”
The North Wales air ambulance was scrambled and the helicopter landed on the beach and airlifted the man to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.
The man is believed to have serious leg injuries.
The incident happened exactly 11 years after Julie Healey was killed on the same beach after her jetski collided with another craft.
Rhyl’s lifeboat was launched twice yesterday, during its annual open day.
In the first incident four people were cut off by the tide near the Sunny Vale caravan park.
Shortly afterwards 10 people got cut off by the tide near the boathouse and were rescued.
A third incident involved a missing child on the beach, who was found before the boat could be launched.
On Saturday the Abersoch inshore rescue vessel rescued a yachtsman with rib and back injuries, who was airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd after his boat hit a rock off the beach.
A 21-foot cruiser in difficulties off Penmon was towed to safety by the Beaumaris lifeboat on Saturday afternoon.
About 700 coastguard staff around the UK are taking part in a 48-hour walkout over pay.
Rescue co-ordinators are angry they are paid less than other emergency services.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said rescue workers would be unaffected.

25th August : Water Woe For Land Rover.
In terms of expensive mistakes, this has to be worthy of a prize.
The owners of this Land Rover Freelander were backing their boat into the water at Crow Point, Braunton, North Devon, when the vehicle became stuck in the sand.
As they tried to free it, the wheels became bogged down further and the vehicle eventually bottomed on the sand.
College lecturer Peter Stapleton noticed something unusual in the water while out fishing nearby on his jetski.
He said: "At first I saw what I thought was a roof rack and decided it needed to be pulled out before someone was hurt.
"But as I got closer I realised there was a vehicle attached to it.
"I later learned that once the owners discovered they weren't going to get the vehicle out of the water, they decided they would go out in their boat until the tide went out again.
"Once the tide had gone out, we looked inside – there were no fish, but there was water everywhere. It was definitely a write-off."
The five-year-old vehicle was eventually recovered.
Mr Stapleton said: "I think the man's wife doesn't want him going anywhere near the water for a while."

21st August : MCA Warn Sea Users In Advance Of Planned Bank Holiday Strike Weekend.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is reminding holiday makers and boat users to look very carefully at their plans in advance of a strike called by the Public and Commercial Services Union which will affect Coastguard Stations around the UK this Bank Holiday weekend (23rd - 25th August).
Contingency arrangements are in place to ensure that the MCA will continue to provide an emergency service.
The industrial action is by those responsible for co-ordinating rescues.
The rescuers themselves will continue to operate as normal.
The Agency is very aware that this weekend will be busier than normal and are therefore reminding the public to take extra care whilst on the sea, beach or cliffs.
The MCA is urging the boating public to think carefully about their plans and to make sure they are aware of standard safety advice before considering going afloat this weekend.
Boat users are strongly reminded that:
A suitable up to date marine weather forecast should be obtained before putting to sea
Forecasts can be obtained from:
Met Office or BBC
Weather forecasting links are also now being carried on the front page of the MCA web site
Skippers should make sure that everyone on board has lifejacket and is wearing it
A fixed or handheld radio should be taken. Mobile phone coverage at sea is far too unpredictable
Suitable in-date flares should be carried
Warm clothing should be stowed in the event of a lengthy breakdown
A torch and spare batteries are absolutely essential. They can be used to guide a rescue helicopter or lifeboat towards you
An on-shore contact should be identified and a passage plan worked out in advance to ensure no one is left worrying about potential late arrivals
MCA Chief Executive, Peter Cardy, said
This weekend our normal service will be affected by industrial action. Plans are in place to provide cover, but I am encouraging everybody working or playing on the sea or on the beach this Bank Holiday weekend to take extra care, and to take heed of our safety advice.
The Agency is absolutely committed to maintaining the safety of life at sea. Detailed contingency plans will be in place and although our
services will be more limited than usual, but the public should know that distress calls will be answered as normal.
The MCA are also reminding sea users to not only watch out for themselves, but for others too.
Peter Cardy added:
The message is still the same - if you see something that you believe is dangerous or putting peoples lives at risk, dont delay. Use the distress VHF Channel 16, or if near a shoreline, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard making sure you know your own position.
Sea users should also be aware that this industrial action is by those responsible for co-ordinating rescues. The rescuers themselves will
continue to operate as normal.
The following services remain unaffected:
Helicopters will continue to fly
RNLI lifeboats and lifeguards are available as usual
MCA Volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers are ready in their local communities
As usual when out at sea, other ships and craft will assist others in distress
Our emergency tugs and pollution control experts will respond to any shipping incidents that threaten the environment.

4th August : Pair Rescued From Jetski Drama.
A Cleveland lifeboat crew rescued two men after their jetski broke down off the coast of Saltburn.
Redcar’s RNLI vessel Leicester Challenge 2 was launched at 4.15pm on Saturday, after the craft suffered a broken drive shaft and began taking in water.
By the time the rescue boat arrived, the vessel and its two riders had been washed ashore at the base of the cliffs at Saltburn, with the tide at its highest point.
A towline was rigged with the help of a council beach lifeguard and the two men were towed back to the beach at Saltburn with the craft.
The owner of the jetski was a 35-year-old man from Barrow-in-Furness and the other rider was his uncle, 48, from Thornaby.
The 48-year-old became ill after landing on the beach by the lifeboat and was taken to hospital with mild hypothermia. His condition was not thought to be serious.
