14th October : 2007 IJSBA World Finals.
2007 Amateur Veteran Ski Limited World Champion Lisa Barsby rode to a second victory today in the Pro-Am Women Ski Limited class.

Lisa started out the day with an impressive ride to third place in moto 1 and a good shot at the title if she could better it in moto 2.
But with conditions deteriorating as the wind picked up this afternoons moto got off to a bad start.
Initially in fourth from her inside starting position Lisa found herself back in sixth after just a couple of laps.
Digging deep she managed to pull a place back and then picked up another when the lead rider incorrectly rounded a missed buoy instead of taking the black penalty one.
Things really heated up on the last lap though when the then first and second place riders collided in the double 180 section allowing Lisa through to second.
Not aware of the original leaders mistake the little lady on the number 7 took some convincing when she arrived on shore that she was the Pro-Am Women Ski Limited World Champion and Fastest Lady On The Planet!
Elsewhere on the course..
Anya Richardson Colley was last off the line in moto 2 of the Junior Ski 13-15 Stock class. She did manage to work her way through the field to sixth though and combined with her moto 1 fourth this places her sixth overall.
Ant Burgess went big and finished an exceptional third in Pro Freestyle just behind the second placed Allesander Lenzi and World Champion Fumikazu Watanabe.
While the fire breathing RXP of James Bushell failed to finish the race when the driveshaft destroyed part of the engine in moto 1 of Pro Runabout. Despite a rapid change of motor before the second moto, James found himself towed in with further mechanical problems.
Matt Edwards led from the start in moto 2 of the Junior Ski 10-12 Stock class. Matt didn't go swimming like in moto 1 and It wasn't until the last quarter that USA's Brandon McMillan who went on to win managed to pass him. Matt got on the podium with a third place overall.
Daniel Field (younger brother of Perry) from Wiltshire wasn't far behind managing an eighth overall in the same class. It was a good showing from the junior juniors with two top half finishes from a field of sixteen riders.
Chris 'Wilko' Wilkinson made a good start in moto 1 of Pro Ski following Mike Klippenstein, Steven Dauliach and Dustin Motzouris before being overtaken by Brice Lopez and then breaking down at the halfway mark. In moto 2 he worked his way from his 11th place start to 7th to finish 14th overall.

13th October : 2007 IJSBA World Finals.
Today was a day of preparation for the UK riders still aiming for victory at the 2007 IJSBA World Finals.

Qualifiers and Pole position races were the order of the day with a mixed result and many surprises.
Out on the course..
Amateur Veteran Ski Limited Champion Lisa Barsby looked on form as she chased the lead group to cross the line fifth in Pro-Am Women Ski Limited. Unlike the group Lisa didn't make an error on the opening lap putting her at the front until a marshal incorrectly included her resulting in a 13th place finish.
Matt Edwards and Daniel Field were out in the Junior Ski 10-12 Stock class fighting for starting positions. Matt took the holeshot but two laps in suffered steering problems and had to pull off while Daniel went on to place 11th.
There was a role reversal in the Junior Ski 13-15 Stock class with Anya Richardson Colley playing catch up to Quinten Bossche. B98 Quinten led from start to finish with Anya chasing his wake until the Spanish rider Nacho Armillas passed and pushed her back to third. It wasn't all bad though as during lunch Pink Girl Anya beat local lad Brandon McMillen across the front of the stands to win the Junior Drag Contest.
On the GB158 Seadoo James Bushell moved up to second from his third place finish when French rider Franky Zapata was DQ'ed in Pro Runabout.
Chris Wilkinson was out on the Macc Racing Monster S4 in Pro Ski and set himself up for a good start tomorrow.
Last but not least Anthony Burgess took to the water in the Pro Freestyle one minute runoffs to determine starting position for Sundays main event. Ant turned in a 46.8 for third position behind the two Japanese riders meaning he will run third from last tomorrow.

12th October : 2007 IJSBA World Finals.
Pink Racer Anya Richardson Colley took the number of UK World titles to three today with a race to the wire in both motos of the Junior Ski 13-15 Limited class.

The 15 Year old from Long Eaton making her second visit to the IJSBA World Finals led the field from start to finish on her trademark Pink 'Girl Powered' Hydrospace S4.
Belgium's Quinten Bossche didn't let her have it all her own way though. The European Junior Ski Champion was breathing down her neck in both motos but Anya held her nerve despite a last lap sub to come out on top.
Elsewhere on the course..
Jim Goodchild was looking blisteringly fast in his first moto of Amateur Ski Open when an awkward stumble ruled him out with a nasty hamstring injury. This sadly has ended his racing here but he does bring home the Masters Ski Stock Crown.
Perry Field ran consistent thirds in the Pro-Am Runabout Stock class for an overall fifth while James Bushell suffered a mechanical failure in both motos and only managed a couple of laps before retiring.
In Amateur Freestyle Spencer Wells (fifth out) was in first position after his two minute routine. He held the top spot until the very last of the twelve riders (Russia's Ivan Potanin) took to the water and grabbed the championship win. Despite pulling the no1 ball, London based Iceman from the Czech Republic put in a good performance finishing eighth.

11th October : 2007 IJSBA World Finals.
The UK's most successful racer has added yet another title to her collection and doubled the amount won so far by British riders at this years IJSBA World Finals.

Lisa Barsby added a second place finish today to yesterdays first in the Amateur Veteran Ski Limited to claim the top position overall.
Lisa, 'Small, Fast and on the Gas' was warming up for the Pro-Am Women Ski Limited at the weekend and bagged herself her first IJSBA World Title in the process.
Looking incredibly fast on her Hydrospace S4, watch out for big things from the little lady this weekend.
Elsewhere on the course..
2007 Masters Ski Stock World Champion Jim Goodchild was back in action in the Amateur Ski Open and Expert Veteran Ski Open qualifiers this afternoon.
Two third position placings see him in a good position to make a move on the titles tomorrow.
A fully recovered Perry Field restarted his campaign after yesterdays trip to casualty and worked his way to a 2nd in the Pro-Am Runabout Four Stroke Limited heat and a third in Pro-Am Runabout Stock.
GB158 James Bushell followed Perry round in Pro-Am Runabout Stock before managing to make his move on the final lap to grab second place.
Pink Girly, Anya Richardson Colley is ready to race in the Junior Ski 13-15 Limited class after a good warm up in the pole position race finishing third.
Finally yesterdays fourth place for Joe Edwards was sadly overturned after a technical infringement resulted in disqualification.

10th October : 2007 IJSBA World Finals.
Hemel Hempstead Roofer Jim Goodchild has opened the scoresheet of UK World Titles at the 2007 IJSBA World Finals with a Championship win in the Masters Ski Stock class.

The first of hopefully many titles this year followed two straight moto wins after securing first place in his qualifying heat. Jim(44) reacted to the start band superbly and rode the Hydrospace S4 to finish with a commanding lead in all his races.
Jim, no stranger to success is back out on the track tomorrow hoping to add the Amateur Ski Open and Expert Veteran Ski Open titles to this years haul.
Elsewhere on the course..
GB 31 Joe Edwards rode to a third place in moto 2 of the Junior Ski 10-12 Lites today. Combined with yesterdays moto 1 fourth place this makes him fourth overall.
Lisa Barsby rode the #7 S4 to first position in this mornings Amateur Veteran Ski Limited qualifier and followed it up with the top spot in moto 1. Tomorrow sees her line up for moto 2.
Finally Perry Field finished up in the hospital when he was first ejected then struck by a following rider after a collision at the end of the front straight saw his Seadoo RXP somersault end over end. Although his Expert Runabout Ltd challenge is over, he has got the all clear to remount for the Pro-am classes.

7th October : Walts 4 Hours Of Havasu World Championship Endurance Race.
Todays opening race of the 2007 IJSBA World Finals the Walts 4 Hours Of Havasu Endurance was dramatically cancelled as riders sat astride their machines waiting for the off.

The heavy winds of the past couple of days saw conditions at the Crazy Horse Campground reach dangerous levels this morning resulting in the last minute cancellation of the event.
The race was due to run a ten mile circuit beginning with a Le Mans start at Crazy Horse before crossing to the California side of the lake. After making a turn south and following the shoreline the riders would cross back and head north along the campground side passing the scoring boat out in front of the race site.
Following problems encountered on the parade lap and acting on advice from the coast guard the organisers Desert Steel Motorsports were left with no alternative but to cancel the event.
Despite many of the disappointed riders being more than capable of racing in these extreme conditions it was a good call on behalf of the organisation as the wind and resulting waves meant it would have been very tricky to guarantee the safety of participants.

Jim Russell of DSM issued the below statement.
It is now just after noon on race day and I am looking at the lake with reduced winds (15-20 mph, gusts to 35 now) and thinking that we could be comfortably running the race in this water and wind combination, and I kick myself for the cancellation this morning. But, not as much as I would if we had hurt a racer in the terrible conditions we had at 9 am this morning. In my estimation the Coast Guard was correct to request us not to run in the water and wind that we had. Since it was not possible for me to assure them that we could provide adequate safety support for the racers under the conditions I was left with no choice. Anyone who had ever produced an event where someone was seriously injured can appreciate the dilemma.
Some good ideas were posed by racers, suggestions included running a course around the established World Finals control zone, or running a two pin-one mile course, but all prospects, although interesting, posed differing and equally considerable risks to the racers and even to our water staff (the quantity of which approached that of the racers and some of whom said that they had never experienced such terrible water on the lake). Such things as placing too many non-closed course riders in too small an area, even if we cut the duration of the race could be opening yet another Pandora’s box of potential disaster. It would have been irresponsible to make such sweeping changes without prior appropriate planning.
After nearly an hour of delay and hoping for improvement we ran the parade lap and actually saw one of the riders get knocked off of his PWC between turns 2 and 3. Meanwhile the scoring boat which had been in place for two days (through what we thought were substantial winds yesterday) broke three anchor lines and washed ashore, turn 1 boat broke it’s anchor line and turn 4 boat was unable to hold on anchor and continually ran his engine to attempt to stay close to in place. The beginning of likely worsening situations. I considered delaying the start of the race in hopes of getting better water but that was impractical since the time that would be required to reset the course boats, etc would inject another delay while the weather forecast called for the winds to continue. I felt it was better to get everyone out of the water quickly including staff members already soaking wet.
My greatest fear was that tough as our endurance racers are, if a rider went down in those conditions and became separated from his boat there was little likelihood of being able to find him in the whitecaps. An opinion shared by the Coast Guard.
Thirty minutes after the sad announcement to cancel the race was made I received a phone call from one of our very experienced racers who had taken a brief joy ride before putting his boat on the trailer. He called to say that within two minutes, at only twenty miles per hour he struck a rogue wave that slammed him violently into the front of his boat, bruising his windpipe and spraining his wrist. Although in pain he wanted to share with me how dangerous the water was and how glad he was that we didn’t challenge the Gods and race.
Again, my apologies for this but you have my assurance that it was a painful decision made with the very best interests of everyone at heart. Thank you for your understanding, and we will explore the rescheduling of the event, we still have IJSBA World Champions to crown.
Jim Russell

The weather prediction for rest of the event shows a significant improvement over the recent high winds and low 80's temperature.
