April : Jetskiers Saved As Mud Traps Van! |
| Four
jet-skiers had to be saved by the coastguard when the incoming tide
threatened to swamp their van.
|
| The men had
driven out on to the sands at Bridgwater Bay near Burnham-on-Sea,
Somerset, on Sunday evening to load up their jet-skis.
|
|
But when their vehicle became
stuck in mud in the face of a rapidly rising tide, coastguards had to
be called.
|
|
The crew of the local rescue
hovercraft were able to fix a rope to the van and pull it free using
their truck.
|
|
Treacherous mud
|
|
Van owner Matt Blakeman, 25,
from Clevedon said: "The van got stuck on a bank of mud and
wouldn't budge.
|
|
"Within a few short
minutes, the tide quickly engulfed us and we were facing big problems.
Fortunately, the hovercraft crew were close by and quickly came to our
rescue, pulling the van out with ropes.
|
|
"We're very grateful to
them - I'm convinced that without their help, we would have lost the
van altogether."
|
|
The rescue came days after a
Land Rover 4x4 was lost to the waves at nearby Brean after its owners
drove out on to the treacherous muddy shoreline.
|
|
Two other vehicles have also
had to be pulled free after becoming stuck in the quicksand in the
past week.

April : Sportsboat
& RIB Show. |
| Saturday 29th
April – Monday 1st May 2006
|

|
| Ocean Village
Marina, Southampton
|
| Lovers of fast
boats, personal watercraft and those looking for an exciting family
day out will not be disappointed at the 2006 Southampton Sportsboat
and RIB Show.
|
|
In addition to the amazing
features at this year’s Show there are the latest gadgets, sports
boats and RIBs, unforgettable on-water displays, great shopping
opportunities and unrepeatable offers.
|
|
Not only can visitors
actually get out on the water at the Show, but they can see some of
the greatest on-water exhibits on the South Coast.
|
|
During the Show there will be
stunt displays from professional wakeboarder, Matt Crowhurst, and his
team of top British boarders. The group will be using a towing device
from the US, called a Grinch. This unique product is clamped onto a
stationary object and pulls the wakeboarder across the water, allowing
for a greater variety of stunts.
|
|
Shelley Jory, the 2005 Honda
225HP Cougar champion, will open the Show, alongside her pilot Libby
Kier. She will also be demonstrating the power of her boat on-water,
which is sure to amaze! Shelley and Libby were the only all-girl team
to compete in the Honda Formula Fourstroke 225 series, racing against
14 teams of men. Their win gave them their first ever championship
title.
|
|
The Freestyle Asylum, four of
the UK’s top freestyle jet skiers, will provide yet more water
sports action. A twin engine jet boat and the 50mph Zapcat race boats
will also be in action on the water.
|
|
The RYA will be exhibiting at
the Show and providing a demonstration boat to enable visitors to have
an insight into the "RYA training experience". In addition
to this, competitors from the 2005 RYA Youth RIB Competition will be
at the Show demonstrating the brand new 2006 boats, and performing a
number of tasks to demonstrate their ability within the arena. The RYA
Youth Championship is open to all young people between the age of 8
and 16 and takes place all around the South Coast throughout 2006.
|
|
The RNLI will be
demonstrating a man overboard drill. The real time demonstration will
take place daily and the RNLI will be onhand in their brand new sea
safety trailer to offer any advice.
|
|
Not only does the 2006
Sportsboat and RIB Show fulfil all visitor’s on-water thrills, there
is also plenty happening on land. Free running group, Team 101 will be
captivating audiences throughout the weekend with their exciting blend
of street stunts and acrobatics. A Del Boy lookalike will also be
putting in an appearance on Monday, arriving in the actual van used in
Only Fools and Horses!

Road Shows Coming To A Town Near You. |

for the summer season, the Personal Watercraft Partnership will be

|
| Local
authorities, coastguards, harbour masters, marine police, clubs and
anyone interested in safety on the water are encouraged to attend.
|
| The
road shows will offer delegates the opportunity to go out on the water
and experience the latest crafts. In addition they will enable
the interested parties to discuss the impact that personal watercraft
have in their area and learn more about how they can be effectively
managed.

road show will cover areas such as training, insurance and craft
identification, and a guide, "Managing Personal Watercraft",
produced by British Marine Federation (BMF) and the RYA will be
available for those attending.

| Howard
Pridding, Executive Director of BMF, commented "The road shows
are an important opportunity for the industry to work alongside local
authorities to encourage safety and enjoyment for everyone out on the
water. Feedback from previous events shows that the advice given
has been put to practical use with great affect in their local
areas."
