| 21st September : Boat Owners Left High And Dry. |
| by Becky Sharpe |
| A watersports firm has left a string of clients out of pocket after selling their boats and jetskis and failing to pay them a penny, liquidators said. |
| Boat and Jetski World owner Gary Mirley has apologised to the clients and admitted: "I was robbing Peter to pay Paul." |
| In total at least 21 private clients are owed a total of £80,000 after their vessels were entrusted to Mr Mirley, who was acting as a broker for the sales through his Willenhall firm. |
| One client was 42-year-old mother Loraine Cave, who wanted to sell her husband's jetski after he was killed riding it in a freak accident. |
| On Monday, she and other creditors met the director at a heated meeting with liquidators who are attempting to claw back some of the cash. |
| Mr Mirley's firm acted as a broker between buyer and seller from his Newhall Street firm, keeping seven per cent of the proceeds with the rest due back to the original owner. |
| The meeting at the Connaught Hotel in Tettenhall Road heard how his company had got into difficulties back in 2002, when it ran into problems with an accountant. |
| Mr Mirley was left with a string of debts and he and his wife were forced to remortgage their home to plough money into the business. |
| The firm never overcame its problems and earlier this year, Mr Mirley decided to call it a day. |
| Liquidator Eileen Sale said the firm had probably been insolvent for the last two to three years. The company also owes more than £78,000 to trade creditors. |
| At the meeting, Mr Mirley apologised to the creditors and said he had spent £200,000 of his own money trying to get the company afloat. |
| "I've been robbing Peter to pay Paul," he said. "I'm gutted, I honestly am. I haven't ripped anyone off intentionally, I haven't shafted anyone intentionally. I'm genuinely really sorry." |

|
|
Forget the lottery, you’ve more chance of winning with winyourboat.com! |

Tennis legend and Wimbledon Champion Pat Cash has teamed up with friends James Wakeford and Glen Goodey to create the new gaming website in order to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get active and out onto the water, with the hope that more people will aspire to be involved in the 2012 Olympics in our home waters. |
|
|
Play winyourboat.com within the Square Mile Surf Shack at this year’s Southampton Boat show. |
|
|
“The idea is to make boating and water sports accessible to anyone not just those who can afford it, and giving them a prize which not only enables them to get out onto the water but equips them with the know how and the means to do it,” says Cash. “We want to encourage people to get into boating and sailing, and with the Olympics in 2012 coming down to the south coast this is a way to inspire people with the opportunity to be able to do it.” |
|
|
Designed to attract the seasoned sailor as well as the aspirational boat owner, winyourboat.com has a diverse range of speed and sailing watercraft that can be won by entering a simple spot-the-ball competition. |
|
|
Inspired by Pat Cash, winyourboat.com is using tennis as the focus for its spot-the-ball games. By determining the correct coordinates of the tennis ball, entrants have the opportunity of winning from a selection of speed and sailing watercraft of their choice. |
|
|
As well as receiving their chosen boat, winyourboat.com is giving each winner a complete package including delivery, training, insurance and accessories that will enable them to get out on the water without any extra preparation or expense. |

| 6th September : Jetski Accidents Lead To Warning. |
| The RNLI has called on jetskiers to act responsibly on the water following a series of accidents in the South West this summer. |
| A court ruling has decreed jetski owners now have the same responsibility as boat owners to learn and obey maritime rules. |
| RNLI Beach Lifeguards - which operate on Westward Ho! Beach as well as more than 50 others around the coast - are urging jetskiers to be more careful. |
| They should keep a good around look out at all times and give way to working craft less able to change course quickly. |
| When overtaking they should keep well clear of other craft and look out for speed limits or other restrictions. |
| Above all, jetskis should keep well clear of swimmers, children, divers and small sailing dinghies or similar craft. |
| To learn more about the maritime rules and how to stay safe on boats and jet skis, go to www.rnli.org.uk/seasafety or telephone 0800 328 0600 for free safety literature. |

| 5th September : Loch Lomond PWCA. |
| Loch Lomond has been in the news lately regarding proposals to restrict personal watercraft use in almost half of the total area of the loch. |
| The proposals if approved will make it illegal to travel at more than 7mph in that area. |
| One group of users refuse to sit by and see this happen. |
| The Loch Lomond Personal Water Craft Association has been set up with a view to providing users operating Personal Watercraft with a single voice within the byelaw review process. |
| The planned self policing by the group aims to show the authorities the positive side of personal watercraft use and members will gain the social benefits of forming an association. |
| You can visit the clubs website for more information, rules, forms, news and future events at... |
