20th October : New Face At Weymouth PWC Centre.
Visitors or telephone callers to Skitek2000, the Personal Watercraft Centre in Weymouth may be surprised to see or hear a new face behind the counter.

Andy Porter has recently taken over the business and is currently using the quieter “out of season” time to take stock and prepare for an exciting 2006.
Andy served his engineering apprenticeship with the Royal Navy and has continued to develop his skills over a number of years, making him very familiar with marine technology and the problems that can face machinery operating in a salt water environment.
Living locally on Portland he was more recently a manager at an engineering company supporting the Defence industry before deciding that office life was just too dull and that Watercraft was a much better way to spend your time.
Skitek2000 has been trading in Weymouth since 2000, and the short-term plan is to continue where they have left off as a Yamaha dealer and also as a supplier for Polaris parts.
As well as a showroom and workshop, they stock wetsuits, clothing and a wide range of pwc accessories.  Old (and new) customers are encouraged to call in for a cup of tea and a chat.
Further details are available if required:  01305 759435 or skitek2000@btconnect.com

11th October : Icom Marketing Manager Passes PWC Course.
Radio Communication Company, Icom UK is pleased to congratulate its Marketing Manager, Ian Lockyer on his successful completion of the 1-day RYA PWC course.
Ian was under the tuition of John Hopkins from Xtreme Water Training and Safety Service, a recognised RYA training centre based in Gosport, Hampshire (www.xwts.co.uk).
Ian Lockyer said, 'I have wanted to do this course for some time. The course was excellent and covered all aspects of the syllabus. It certainly gave me a great deal of satisfaction to have navigated my course from Gosport to various points on the Solent.'
He added, 'Not being the most confident on the water, I was surprised how safe and stable the Personal Watercraft is. I was very thankful for John's patience and skill throughout. Once I had completed the capsizing and towing aspect of the course my confidence grew. John Hopkins puts a particular emphasis on safety on the water at all times. I learned the benefit of using the craft sensibly and also ensuring that I use the proper safety equipment.'
John Hopkins said, 'Every personal watercraft owner has an obligation to other water users. Safety must be of paramount consideration for themselves, their family and other vessels. That is why we always carry radios.’ He added, ’it is really good that someone from Icom has taken this course as it backs up this important safety message to the hobby.'
Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager of Icom said ‘ When you get involved in a market you need to immerse yourselves fully to understand the needs of the customers. I think that if I was involved in a hobby and someone was trying to sell me something I would be suspicious - I think you need to put your money where your mouth is to prove yourself. PWC are becoming more sophisticated and the need to be safe with a reliable VHF is important. This training course has backed up this belief.
Thanks John for an exciting but a very safe introduction to operating a personal watercraft.'

5th October : Freestyler In The News.
Nantwich youngster Ant Burgess is jumping for joy after a fabulous season on the British freestyle Jetski circuit.
The acrobatic 15-year-old finished second in the JSRA British Championships and was crowned overall champion of the Freestyle National Tour.
But the secret to his success, he admits, was a rather special trick he learnt from former jetski world champion Marc Sickerling which has been wowing judges and fans up and down the country all summer.
After attending a special 'jetski clinic' hosted by the German ace, Ant started to pull off a stunt never before performed by a skier in the UK.
With the help of two motorboats steaming towards him to create an extra large wave in the water, Ant has been able to perfect the art of the 'Invert', or 360° back-flip, to leave fellow competitors trailing in his wake.
The trick helped him win five of the six meetings in the FNT series, slipping to second in the other contest after his own trusted ski developed an electrical fault and he had to borrow one from another competitor.
In the British Championship, he finished third in four of the six events, won one and finished second in the other two.
Dad Pete said: 'Ant would like to say a huge thank you to this year's sponsors for helping him go so far this season.
'Chris Giles and Lisa at Air Time Products have kept the ski in tiptop condition and supplied him with all the parts, and Gecko Headgear gave him the helmet he used in practice while trying to perfect the back-flip.
'Finally, Oxygen Clothing have kept him in sports gear off the water, and Dean Shelfer at THC Industries has supplied the MX gloves he needs to use for all that time on the water.'
The end of the season proper does not mean Ant will be putting his feet up for long.
He is off to Ibiza next week to do a series of displays at the annual Jet Bou event, and there will be more of the same at the Wight Air 05 extreme sports extravaganza on the Isle of Wight at the end of the month.
Then it will be a hard winter's training as Ant goes in hunt of the British Championships next summer, hopefully booking a place at the World Finals at Lake Havau, USA, in October 2006.

4th October : White Air XSF Extreme Sports Festival.
King of Shaves Announce Sponsorship of White Air XSF Extreme Sports Festival 2005 October 27-30, Isle of Wight, UK.
Created by Nigel Howells in 1997 as a Wind and Surf based event, the White Air Extreme Sports Festival has grown enormously, attracting competitors and spectators from all over Europe.
The event is particularly successful due to it's spectator friendly location and is now regarded as one of the most prestigious International Extreme Sports festivals on the calendar.
King of Shaves, the UK's #2 men's high performance shaving and skincare brand are delighted to be sole event sponsor. The event also forms part of Fosters Surf Tour.
Held at Yaverland, near Sandown, IoW between October 27th and 30th 2005, the King of Shaves White Air XSF (Extreme Sports Festival) is this year's extreme sports highlight for competitors and spectators alike. Although it has its roots firmly in the watersport competitions the event has now expanded to breath-taking, awe-inspring land based XS disciplines too, much to the spectators' delight.
On the water, competitions and events involve Windsurfing, Wavesailing, Slalom Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, Surfing, Thundercats, Surf Kayak Racing and Jet Ski Freestyle.
Whilst on-land (or in-air), BMX, Inline, Skateboarding, Mountain Boarding, Indoor Climbing and Mountain Biking have added greatly to this huge extreme sports competition enabling top action not only on the water but now just as much on the land as well.
White Air XSF has built its reputation around top class competition combined with a friendly competitor and spectator atmosphere. The variety of live music every night and the huge marquee party on the weekend are all part of this unique event.
The event now attracts some 500 world-class competitors and 20,000 spectators over the 4 days! Whatever the weather there will be action either on the land, on the water, or both!
Special events are also planned including hair raising 'Extreme Shaving 'stunts both afloat and ashore, a slew of great British bands, Miss White Air 2005 and a whole lot more!
King of Shaves founder Will King said "I've got a great feeling about this relationship with White Air and am looking forward to some serious fun! Plus, it's half term holidays too, so we're expecting lots of families, kids and Big Crowds, as well as Big Air!"
