Ariz.--Athletes
from around the globe and across the U.S. are heading to Lake Havasu
for the 2004 Dos Equis Desert XX as the world's top racers prepare to
battle it out during the 23rd International Jet Sports Boating
Association (IJSBA) Dos Equis World Finals, Oct. 3-10 in Lake Havasu
City, Ariz.

The sports and lifestyle
festival will also include demos by action sport stars from BMX and
Skateboarding on Half-pipe, a Freestyle Motocross air show live music,
and the massive Performance Alley.
|
|
Sanctioned under rules of the
IJSBA, of Costa Mesa, Calif. and produced for the first time by IMG
Action Sports, the IJSBA Dos Equis World Finals of personal watercraft
racing is one of the world's most unique and spectacular sporting
championships. Returning to Lake Havasu for the 23rd consecutive year,
the massive racing extravaganza will be held in the shadow of the
original London Bridge on the offshoot waters of the Colorado River.

The race site for the sixth
consecutive year will be at the purpose-built Aqua Stadium on the
grounds of the Crazy Horse RV Resort and Campgrounds in the popular
Arizona water resort of Lake Havasu City.
|
|
Featuring over 1,200 entries
from more than 30 nations, the IJSBA Dos Equis World Finals is the
premier personal watercraft racing extravaganza in the world and
boasts more than $120,000 in prizes and contingencies in the massive
eight-day event. IJSBA World Championship titles will be presented in
34 closed-course racing classes as well as Pro Freestyle and Amateur
Freestyle.

The event will also feature
freestyle motocross, skateboarding, BMX and mini-moto racing in
world-class venues, along with live concerts and an interactive
lifestyle festival spread over 12 acres.
|
|
“Dos Equis Desert XX is the
ultimate season-ending party and the Southwest’s first action sports
and lifestyle festival with its roots firmly placed in the personal
watercraft capital of the world,” said James Leitz, vice president
for IMG Action Sports. “The heritage of the IJSBA Dos Equis World
Finals dates back over two decades. Over the years, this event has
become the epicenter for racing, fun and lifestyle.”

After 22 years as an annual
Lake Havasu happening, this year's IJSBA Dos Equis World Finals, will
once again center around the world’s finest PWC racing.
Additionally, the festival will include great food, the Dos Equis
Desert XX Concert Stage, wakeboard demos, a poker run, Dash-4-Cash
Australian Pursuit, Supercourse exhibition race, Sea-Doo Challenge,
4-stroke mini motorcycle races and the Pro-celebrity mini moto
challenge. Also part of the event site is the interactive Performance
Alley industry exhibits.

A veritable salute to
personal watercraft and the youthful lifestyle it represents, the
industry's biggest week will include several distinct championship
events. Starting the week will be the 2004 IJSBA Novice National
Finals and Masters World Finals (Oct. 3-5), followed by the 2004 IJSBA
Expert and Amateur World Finals (Oct. 7-8) and concluding with the
featured 2004 IJSBA Pro and Pro-Am World Finals (Oct. 8-10).

Freestyle athletes will
compete in the IJSBA Amateur Freestyle World Finals on Friday, Oct. 8
and the IJSBA Pro Freestyle World Finals with qualifying on Saturday,
Oct. 9 and finals on Sunday, Oct. 10.
|
|
Featured in the spotlight
will be the nine returning 2003 IJSBA Pro and Pro-Am World
Champions—France’s Steven Dauliach (Pro Ski-Kawasaki), Japan’s
Masao Fujisawa (Pro Freestyle-Yamaha), Dustin Farthing, Port Lucie,
Fla. (Pro Runabout 1200-Kawasaki), Brazil’s Celio Vinicius
(Sport-Sea-Doo), Rob Flores, Las Vegas (Pro-Am Ski
Superstock-Kawasaki), Victor Sheldon, Vista, Calif. (Pro-Am Ski
Stock-Polaris), Kenneth Ritchie, Fullerton, Calif. (Pro-Am Runabout
1200SS-Sea-Doo), Eric Lagopoulos, Longboat Key, Fla. (Pro-Am Runabout
800SS-Sea-Doo) and Janelle Barr, Renton, Wash. (Pro-Am Women
Ski-Kawasaki).

Among the other elite of
personal watercraft racers who will be competing in Lake Havasu
include superstars Chris MacClugage and Eric Malone of the U.S. along
with France’s Nicolas Rius, and Brazil’s Alessander Lenzi.
|
|
Scheduled to participate in
the action sports half-pipe demos are: Skateboard stars Neal Hendrix,
Jesse Fritsch, Sandro Dias and Lecio Batista; BMX noteables Tom
Stober, Dave Brumlow, Danny Williams and Jim Burgess along with
prominent Freestyle Motorcross riders Ronnie Renner, Jimmy McGuire and
Myles Richmond.

The Dos Equis Desert XX
Concert Stage will fire up on Friday (Oct. 8) with live concerts by
Asphalt, Another Damn Disappointment and Common Sense and on Saturday
(Oct. 9) with Stickman Group, Pepper and TSOL.
|
|
“The IJSBA is honored and

General Admission to the
first half of the IJSBA World Finals (Oct. 3-6) is free with daily pit
passes available for $10 each. Individual daily General Admission
tickets for the featured four days of the event (Oct. 7-10) are $10
each for Thursday, $15 Friday, $20 on Saturday and Sunday. Pit passes
for those four days are an additional $10 for Thursday, $15 Friday,
$20 each on Saturday and Sunday. A four-day General Admission ticket
is available for just $40.

Special IJSBA Super Passes,
which include both a general admission ticket and a pit pass will also
be available at the gate for the final four days (Oct. 7-10). Four day
Super Passes will be $65 each, three day (Friday-Sunday) will be $60,
Two day (Saturday and Sunday) will be $55 and Sunday only will be $40.

Various discounts, with valid
ID and good for up to two discounted tickets, are also available for
AWA/IJSBA members, Military personnel, senior citizens (over 60) and
residents of Lake Havasu City.

| As final preparations
are completed for the 7th edition of Jetraid we bring you the latest
news.
|
|
| On October 1st
the UK will be represented by Lisa Barsby and Jim Goodchild as the
Jetraid comes to Europe for the first time.
|
|
Onboard Yamaha GP1300r's
Numbers 51 and 54 Lisa and Jim will begin the Jetraid with closed
course and oval races before departing Cesme, Turkey on the first 260km stage.
|
|
Lisa and Jim will be
competing in the F1 Category (One pilot competes alone on his/her
runabout) and as well as the 150 to 250 kilometres covered daily will
take part in:
|
|
Navigation tests
: These are timed heats that take place between two points. Pilots
depart individually at regular intervals and the use of a GPS is
authorized or recommended according to the particular stages.
|
|
Offshore tests
: These are events taking place at sea or between islands. The
starting signal is given individually or simultaneously to all
competitors; it is advisable to use a GPS.
|
|
Endurance of 180 minutes
: This is a three-hour event on a predetermined course without a
break, pilots are free to refuel whenever they wish.
|
|
Flash Races
: These are run over a short distance and the starting signal is given
to all the pilots at the same time. No refuelling is permitted during
these races.
|
Special Races
:
- Closed Courses : stages run on a traditional circuit of buoys. Two
heats each lasting 45 minutes, with a 30 minute break to refuel.
- Oval Races : race on an oval circuit of buoys. One or two heats of
45 minutes each.
- Individual time trial : each pilot makes a complete tour of a buoys
circuit in the shortest possible time.

Liaisons
: Stages where all pilots navigate together for security reasons. A
generous time span is foreseen to complete these stages.

embarked upon the project that was to become the Jetraid in 1998 and
at that time we could never have anticipated that six years further
on, the event would have acquired such international renown and
status. |

The number of
participants has increased by 35 % each year since the beginning and
the event is sanctioned by the International and European Jet Sports
Boating Association (IJSBA & EJSBA) as the Runabout Rally Raid
World Championship. |
|
Over the
years, pilots from 15 different countries have joined us in this great
adventure that remains as unpredictable as it is addictive. |

The
Jetraid has grown in stature over the last years and has visited five
different countries (Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Gambia and Guinea
Bissau) but make no mistake – the race is still aimed at everyone
looking for a challenge to test their wits and their stamina. |

expedition through uncharted territory for professionals and amateurs
alike, and it’s not all about being the fastest or having the most

Southampton Sportsboat And RIB Show. |

MDL Marinas are proud to
announce the dates of the 2005 Sportsboat and RIB Show and that, once
again, the event will take place at the prestigious marina, Ocean
Village in Southampton. |
|
|
2004 saw the debut of the
Southampton Sportsboat and RIB Show and it was a resounding success,
attracting more than 12,000 visitors. |
|
Once again, MDL Marinas and
Sportsboat and RIB Magazine will be organizing and supporting the
event in 2005, and the 3 day event will take place at MDL operated
Ocean Village Marina in Southampton, running from the 6th to the 8th
May 2005. |
|
The 2005 show will include
over 70 exhibitors with great displays in the main exhibition area and
a large range of sportsboats and latest RIBs. The organizers hope to
see even more than the impressive 12,000 visitors of 2004. As well as
exhibitors in the undercover marquee area, 2005 will boast a large
range of boats on display in the marina itself. |

As well as exhibitors, the
show will feature non-stop entertainment and attractions for adults

September : Jetskier
Gets That Sinking Feeling. |
|
A Charity
challenge nearly turned to disaster when a Waltham jetskier had to be
rescued by the RNLI - the organisation he was raising money for. |
|
Lee Searby
(38), from Peaks Lane, was plucked from the Irish Sea on Tuesday by an
RNLI lifeboat. Mr Searby was carrying out the challenge with friends
Brian and Mark Bellamy, from Pelham Avenue, Grimsby, Brian Ireland, of
Fuller Street, Cleethorpes, and Graham Colby, from Robson Road,
Cleethorpes. |
|
The skiers - all committee
members of the newly formed Cleethorpes Watersports Club - were on the
final leg of a 60-mile return journey to the Isle of Man. |
|
But trouble struck when Mr
Searby's jet ski broke down just four miles off St Bees. |
|
"I think one of the
cylinders packed in," he said. |
|
"It started taking in
water and the back end started to sink." |
|
The experienced jet skiers
had taken mobile phones, radios, spare petrol, tow ropes and flares
with them on their journey. |
|
They tried to bring the
machine back into shore themselves, but were running low on fuel and
were forced to call for help. |
|
Mr Searby said: "It was
a bit hair-raising. Four miles doesn't sound a long way to be stranded
from shore, but it does when you are in that situation." |
|
The St Bees RNLI boat and
Whitehaven Coastguard went to their aid to bring the stricken machine
ashore. |
|
Mr Searby got a lift back
where as the others went on to become the first people to complete the
challenge. |
|
Mr Colby (36) said: "It
was just one of those things but we were well prepared so it didn't
cause too many problems." |
|
A spokesman from Liverpool
Coastguard, which co-ordinated the rescue, said the skiers had called
before setting off to check on weather conditions. They were told that
forceful winds in the morning were forecast to decrease and change
direction in the afternoon, when it would be safe for them to commence
their challenge. |
|
Now safely home after his
ordeal, Mr Searby has the task of repairing his £3,150 machine. |
|
He said: "Hopefully I
will be able to fix it and be back on the water soon." |
|
The fundraisers are still
calculating the total amount raised. |
