| 18th September : Seadoo RXP Voted Watercraft Of The Year. | |
| The Sea-Doo® RXP from Bombardier™ has been voted Watercraft of the Year by Watercraft World magazine, beating off competition from many other world-class manufacturers. |
|
| Launched in January this year to great acclaim, the RXP with its massive 215hp engine, is currently the most powerful production 4-stroke PWC in the world. | |
| In addition to the many features that impressed during the evaluation, the magazine gave particular praise to the strength, performance and quiet, environmentally friendly engine of the RXP. | |
| The Sea-Doo® RXP was also winner in Watercraft World’s readers’ poll, in which over 1400 website visitors voted for their pick of Watercraft of the Year. The RXP was a clear winner with over 38% of votes, whilst the Sea-Doo® GTX 4-Tec Supercharged also proved popular claiming third place with 12.4% of votes. | |
| The RXP is the perfect example of a true ‘musclecraft’, with sleek, head-turning looks combined with unrivalled power which unleashes an adrenaline-fuelled ride. | |
| The power of the RXP is derived from enhancements to the already formidable 1494 cc Rotax® 4-TEC 4-stroke supercharged engine, (which alone produces a remarkable 185hp). Bombardier® added an intercooler, which provides cooler, denser air in the combustion chambers, creating stronger combustion and ultimately more power. | |
| Paul Francis of Jets Marivent, the sole UK and Eire distributor for BRP™ (Bombardier Recreational Products) believes the award is well deserved, commenting, | |
| “The launch of the RXP signalled a massive advance in PWC technology. As of yet, no other PWC has surpassed the RXP in terms of power and performance and we’re delighted that it has received this recognition”. | |

| 16th September : Jetraid 2004. | |
| AND SO FOR NUMBER SEVEN ! | |
| We first embarked upon the project that was to become the Jetraid in 1998 and at that time we could never have anticipated that six years further on, the event would have acquired such international renown and status. |
|
| The number of participants has increased by 35 % each year since the beginning and the event is sanctioned by the International and European Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA & EJSBA) as the Runabout Rally Raid World Championship. | |
| Over the years, pilots from 15 different countries have joined us in this great adventure that remains as unpredictable as it is addictive. | |
| The Jetraid has grown in stature over the last years and has visited five different countries (Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Gambia and Guinea Bissau) but make no mistake – the race is still aimed at everyone looking for a challenge to test their wits and their stamina. | |
| It’s an expedition through uncharted territory for professionals and amateurs alike, and it’s not all about being the fastest or having the most powerful machine. It’s all about reading the situation, reacting well under pressure, taking the right decisions at the right time, and finding hidden inner strengths. | |
| This year, together with the country authorities, we have decided to bring the Runabout Rally-Raid World Championship back to Europe for the first time of its history. | |
| From October 1st to October 10th, the Jetraid will be held in the marvelous sceneries of the Turkish Coast, beginning and ending in Cesme after visiting the most spectacular places such as Canakkale and Bodrum. | |
| Turkey will host the next 5 editions of the Jetraid, from the Black Sea to the far south of its Mediterranean coasts. | |
| This year again, some people join us for the scenery and culture. Some people will join us for the adventure. Some people will join us to win and some people will join us just to reach the finish. The Jetraid lives up to the expectations of each and every one of them no matter what that expectation or their own capabilities might be. | |
| So come and join us on the seventh edition of this unforgettable experience ! | |
| Thank you | |
| Sakir Yavuz and Murat Esen (Saya Group), and Patrick Nassogne (Blue Iguana), co-promoters. | |

| 2nd September : Jetskier Gets That Sinking Feeling. |
| A Charity challenge nearly turned to disaster when a Waltham jetskier had to be rescued by the RNLI - the organisation he was raising money for. |
| Lee Searby (38), from Peaks Lane, was plucked from the Irish Sea on Tuesday by an RNLI lifeboat. Mr Searby was carrying out the challenge with friends Brian and Mark Bellamy, from Pelham Avenue, Grimsby, Brian Ireland, of Fuller Street, Cleethorpes, and Graham Colby, from Robson Road, Cleethorpes. |
| The skiers - all committee members of the newly formed Cleethorpes Watersports Club - were on the final leg of a 60-mile return journey to the Isle of Man. |
| But trouble struck when Mr Searby's jet ski broke down just four miles off St Bees. |
| "I think one of the cylinders packed in," he said. |
| "It started taking in water and the back end started to sink." |
| The experienced jet skiers had taken mobile phones, radios, spare petrol, tow ropes and flares with them on their journey. |
| They tried to bring the machine back into shore themselves, but were running low on fuel and were forced to call for help. |
| Mr Searby said: "It was a bit hair-raising. Four miles doesn't sound a long way to be stranded from shore, but it does when you are in that situation." |
| The St Bees RNLI boat and Whitehaven Coastguard went to their aid to bring the stricken machine ashore. |
| Mr Searby got a lift back where as the others went on to become the first people to complete the challenge. |
| Mr Colby (36) said: "It was just one of those things but we were well prepared so it didn't cause too many problems." |
| A spokesman from Liverpool Coastguard, which co-ordinated the rescue, said the skiers had called before setting off to check on weather conditions. They were told that forceful winds in the morning were forecast to decrease and change direction in the afternoon, when it would be safe for them to commence their challenge. |
| Now safely home after his ordeal, Mr Searby has the task of repairing his £3,150 machine. |
| He said: "Hopefully I will be able to fix it and be back on the water soon." |
| The fundraisers are still calculating the total amount raised. |

| 2nd September : Polaris to Exit Marine Business. |
| Declining Personal Watercraft Market, Continued Operating Losses Led to Decision |
| MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 2, 2004--Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE:PII)(PSE:PII) announced today that it will cease to manufacture marine products effective immediately. Polaris will assist dealers in liquidating existing inventories and will continue to provide replacement parts, service and warranty to marine dealers and customers. The Company reported that the decision does not affect any of Polaris' other product lines. |
| "This was an extremely difficult decision for the Board of Directors of Polaris because our people are very proud and we have a proven record of succeeding in all we do," said Polaris President and CEO Tom Tiller. "However, the personal watercraft industry and our position within the market simply is not where we need it to be for this division to be viable. This decision is designed to foster long-term growth and shareholder value." |
| Mr. Tiller cited several factors that influenced Polaris' decision. He noted that the personal watercraft (PWC) market has been in decline for several years, leaving industry sales today at about half the size of the market from its peak in 1996 with uncertainty of recovery. In 2003, sales from the marine division comprised only three percent of total Company sales. Less than 25 percent of Polaris dealers in North America carry marine products, and it generally makes up a small percentage of their overall business. As technology and the distribution channel have evolved, the marine division's lack of commonality with other Polaris product lines has created challenges for Polaris and its dealer base. Recently, the marine division has experienced escalating costs and increasing competitive pressures. The marine business has never been profitable for Polaris, and generated a pretax loss from operations of $13 million in 2003. |
| "This decision will ultimately strengthen Polaris' position in the powersports industry as we focus our research and development dollars and other resources on those product lines with greater growth potential, including our all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), utility vehicles, snowmobiles, Victory motorcycles and parts, garments and accessories," said Tiller. "This should result in accelerated product innovation that Polaris is known for and customers have grown to expect and further solidify the Company's strong financial performance." |
