15th January : UK World Champions Honoured

JSRA Press release – 14th January 2004

Today at the London International Boat Show 4 young British Jetsport competitors were honoured for their achievements at the recent World Championships in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, USA. The presentation took place at 4pm on the CSL Publishing stand in front of a crowd of 40 plus spectators.
The four young men in question, all under the age of 17yrs, stole the championships by taking 6 World titles back to Britain in both Closed Course Racing and Freestyle disciplines. Their outstanding achievements also won Britain a joint first place on points in the Nations Cup. Finally finishing second on count-back. However this is still a remarkable achievement considering Britain only entered 7 riders.
Michael Brookfield (17) and Dan Ashcroft (15) took wins in the Freestyle Amateur and Junior divisions, whilst Jordan Fielder (16) and Lewis Goodchild (14) dominated on the race track by winning two titles each in both the Expert and Junior classes.
James and Chris Cornell were also awarded for their podium positions along with the only female competitor Victoria Beale.
Honoring the young men for their outstanding achievement was RYA Powerboat Manager John Puddifoot, and presenting the certificates was multi-titled Offshore Powerboat Champion Steve Curtis.
Jetsport racing is organized and run through the Jet Sport Racing Association of Great Britain (JSRA), which is in turn affiliated to the RYA through the Powerboat Racing department. The sport is on the up and this recent scoop for British riders will only help to raise the profile of this exciting watersport.

So what's planned for 2004?
The first stop of the tour will be held over Easter weekend at Nitrojet, Cirencester. Running alongside the Freestyle will be a Nitrojet Demo weekend and the Monday will see the first slalom event on the tour open to both stand-up and sit-down craft.

7th January : Stolen PWC Recovered
The 1996 Seadoo GTX on a four day old roller coaster trailer was stolen in August 2003 from a secure garage in Hertfordshire.
Gary at Clacton Watercraft Club recently received a call from Herts police regarding the recovery of the PWC.
Although the identification numbers had been removed the craft was still displaying a Clacton Watercraft Club Decal.
A quick browse of the club member registrations, cross referenced with the Datatag identification number (also not removed), quickly led them to the rightful owners details.
Three days later the owner and his pride and joy were reunited at the conclusion of investigations.
Although the trailer had suffered some damage during the theft, the end result was a good reminder to check the terms of your insurance as due to the seat being with the craft and not stored separately as per the policy, without recovery this would have been an expensive lesson.
