9th October : World Finals Today
The temperature has reached scorching point here at Havasu today and the tempo on the track has also risen steadily. Thursday was once again ‘The Jordan Fielder Show’. The 16 year old is simply setting the championships alight and enthralling the British fans and the American public alike.

www.ijsba.com

Those fans watching today and listening in on the live webcast were treated to some thrilling action. In the eighth race of the day, Expert Ski Superstock, the Nottingham lad trailed in third position on the left hand holeshot. By the time the field exited the splitter and joined together for the first corner Jordan was placed fifth. With the top seven riders qualifying for the main event it appeared all Jordan had to do was maintain position to qualify. However, anyone who has watched Jordan race will know there is only one place he is interested in being and that is at the front.
By the 3rd lap he had cut through his competitors into second place and was running down the leader with each buoy. The lead was inevitable, once out front Fielder opened up a sixteen second gap and romped over the line comfortably.
Three races later Jordan was back on the line for the qualifying heat of the Pro-Am Ski Stock. The midday sun burned down, but it was Jordan’s start that left everyone sweating. He appeared to bump his head on the start line pole and watched as the rest of the field streaked away to the holeshot buoy. Showing courage and determination he quickly passed five other riders on the first lap and set to hunting down the rest of the pack.
As the race progressed the tension rose, could he get into the vital top five, qualify and avoid the LCQs. Using race-craft and experience Jordan selected the inside splitter section on the penultimate lap. The clear water gave him the advantage he was looking for and he gained a position into fourth. Not content with that he continued to harass those ahead, as the riders stretched for the finish line in a head to head, neck and neck battle Jordan slipped into third. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, job done.
The day was not over yet though! Just four races later he was back on the line in the Pro-Am Runabout 1200 Stock. This was to be a historic race as onto the start came a Honda Aquatrax ridden by Takashi Nara. Having no great experience in runabout racing you could be forgiven for thinking this was a bridge to far for the young pilot. However as i said, today was the ‘Jordan Fielder Show’ and with the tower going mad each time they mentioned his name you knew it was to be a special day.
After an average start and coming through the home straight in around sixth place you hoped Jordan would simply hang on to qualify in the top seven. However, the race report would read almost exactly the same as above and suffice to say the pocket battleship was the second across the line on the waving of the chequered flag!
Going on elsewhere around the World Finals complex was the unveiling to the public of the SeaDoo RXP. The new craft created quite a stir and amongst the throng cameras whirred and flash bulbs popped. Not to be outdone Polaris whipped the cover off the Matrix 200 concept craft. Later today the Polaris gig kicks off with a live band and rider appreciation party. Which reminds me... time to go and slug down a cold one! – Craig Barnett JS&PW

8th October : World Finals Today

Ladies and Gentlemen we have a WORLD CHAMPION!

www.ijsba.com

Always a little late, but better than never, Craig Barnett has finally arrived to contribute the words for our daily updates from Havasu.

Over to you Craig.

Yeah, yeah – I never come too early! Here at the World Finals Wednesday is something of a watershed. Today the first World Titles go up for grabs. The opportunity was there for a young gun to step up to the plate and totally blow away the opposition. In a ballistic display of ski racing young Jordan Fielder, aged 16, did just that. Leading from wire to wire in both motos of the Expert Ski Limited class Jordan showed no mercy, leading home an international field by twenty second margins.
But the domination didn’t stop there. In Expert class the competitors have to negotiate the Slalom, which counts for 20 points toward their final positions. Showing maturity beyond his years by electing to take advantage of the flat water during the lunch interval Jordan entered the course. The first couple of runs were blistering but nobody could anticipate what was to follow. With a breathtaking display of control and power Jordan took top honours with a WORLD RECORD breaking run of 21.08 seconds! Here the Brits in the bleachers are flying the flag whilst our riders fly out on the course.
Also competing in Expert Ski Limited was Queenford rider James Cornell. We are still awaiting the calculation of James’s final position though there is some hope we could have two Brits on the podium. Cornell has put himself in contention with two fantastic performances. In the first moto our man from Leicester muscled his way into a top five position on the holeshot. A see-saw battled ensued with Cornell finally landing the fourth slot. In the second moto all eyes were on Jordan but Cornell stuck to his task manfully, riding a consistently strong race James cut his way through the field to third position. Fingers are crossed as we await the calculation of scores and Slalom results.

Body Beach was again busy this evening with both of our young Freestylers, Brookfield and Ashcroft, out tuning their boats and throwing big tricks. The Pro freestyle could well be worth tuning in for on Sunday though. Down at Area Six yesterday and on video, Alessander Lenzi and Fujisawa (respectively), have both been witnessed pulling off amazing flat water tricks!!
