29th November : 2003 Jetraid Postponed
The start of the 2003 Jetraid has been postponed for six weeks.
(from jetraid.com)
The decision to postpone the Jetraid was not taken lightly. The financial impact on our company will be around 90,000 euros. It would have cost us less to cancel altogether.
Organising a Jetraid in Africa is a high risk operation. Up until now we have never had any problems thanks to our organisation, but also thanks to a fair stroke of good luck which for the first time in five years has now deserted us.
We would like to thank the large majority of you for your support in these difficult times. It has given us much motivation. And we are very sorry that we have had to put you all in such awkward positions.
For the small minority inclined to circulate false rumours: we are not bankrupt, we have not left the country with all the jets ?!?, we have not left the country with all the entry fees ?!?, we have no boat blocked at our suppliers, we still get to eat everyday, thank you very much, etc etc.
We are the first to try and find solutions for each and everyone of you even if the rulebook does not oblige us to do so, but please stop spreading rumours that are frankly becoming slanderous.
The 2003 Jetraid will take place from 17 to 31 January 2004 with all the pilots who still wish to take part but unfortunately without the others.
28th November : Tayjet Personal Watercraft Club Announcement
As of the 1st of December 2003 Tayjet Personal Watercraft Club will become an affiliate member of the Royal Tay Yacht Club Dundee.
This is believed to be the first merging of a yacht club with a Jet Ski club within the UK, definitely within Scotland and could set the precedent for others to follow.
Through the agreement between the 2 clubs Tayjet will keep its own Identity, Rules and constitution as well as membership and events programme.
Tayjet members will have full use of the Royal Tay clubhouse facilities as well as the use of the 3 RTYC slips, storage and beach facilities at the waterfront.
Full use of Fort William House has been granted for Tayjet to use as its headquarters and they will shortly be changing the official club address to Fort William House.
This is a great opportunity for Tayjet as the many function rooms and meeting rooms at the new headquarters will allow them to entertain guests in a comfortable environment, give a fixed base for meetings and allow their members to have a single point for social gatherings and events.
Working together the two clubs will be sharing the benefits of each others experiences, for Tayjet the extra safety cover by utilising the extra safety boats under the RTYC control, and the experience of the members of the RTYC will allow them to expand on their events throughout the forthcoming years.
Tayjet intend to assist the RTYC in its forthcoming regattas, events and races. And are investigating the use of PWC for a Fast Response Rescue/Safety role.
A communication programme has got under way to work on the perceptions of each club in aspects to historical views of each other, both the Commodore of the RTYC and the President of Tayjet see this as a great opportunity for both clubs.
The Royal Tay Yacht Club will be able to expand its RYA Training Centre capabilities by utilising the 2 Tayjet Instructors to add the Safety Boat, Powerboat 2 and PWC competency to their existing training portfolio.
