28th February : Xtreme Action Relocation.
'Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, the Xtreme Action Events have had to take the decision to relocate the Xtreme Action Weekend to a much improved venue which is more central to the UK, offering cheaper accommodation and better facilities.'

The Xtreme Action Weekend on 2nd and 3rd July 2005 has been relocated.
Unforeseen developments at the Tattershall Country Park venue used for the previous Xtreme Weekends pointed to almost certain cancellation of the annual event.
Frantic searching for an alternative venue has taken place over the past few days and happily Grendon Lakes has been secured as the location for Xtreme Action Weekend 2005.
Paul Hughes of Xtreme Action Events commented.
" With the Xtreme Action Weekend expanding year on year, this was projected to be the last at the Tattershall Site. Some Issues regarding the park have recently surfaced which could have had a disastrous impact on the event, so its in the interest of everyone involved to bring our plans to relocate forward."
Asked about the new venue Paul added.
"Grendon Lakes is a new and upcoming resort for such weekends, the partnership between Xtreme Action Events and Grendon lakes can only mean a better weekend all round due to the central location, transport infrastructure and bigger and better local facilities."
Updated Event Information can be found at www.xtremeaction.co.uk
Anyone with confirmed accommodation at Tattershall Country Park should contact them immediately to cancel.

18th February : New Yamaha Waverunners On Show!
New Yamaha four-stroke Waverunners on show at NEC, Birmingham Boat & Caravan Show 19th to 27th February.

- the future of personal watercraft continues …
The Birmingham Show offers another opportunity to see a key selection of the latest Yamaha WaveRunners with knowledgeable, experienced dealers on hand for advice and guidance on purchase and use.
The new 2005 Yamaha Waverunner line-up is yet another landmark in the history of personal watercraft development and as with so many other significant industry turning points, it is Yamaha that sets the pace once again.
It is the first time any manufacturer has launched a range where the latest technology four-stroke models outnumber conventional two-stroke machines.
Yamaha has been the UK market leader for the past two years and is aiming for a third through competitive pricing and product benefits.
Every year is important and exciting for the Yamaha customer, with new models and innovative features from the latest WaveRunner range.
Stand dealers will be able to advise on the full Yamaha range, of which the following key examples are on display.

New WaveRunner FX HO and FX Cruiser
Spearheading the 2005 WaveRunner range are machines that take the four-stroke watercraft concept to new heights. As its name implies, the FX HO (High Output) delivers even more power than the standard FX model, while its more refined partner machine, the FX HO Cruiser, can surely be described as the ultimate ‘sports-touring’ watercraft, with seating for three passengers and an impressive 100 litres storage capacity. In terms of product development, nothing stands still at Yamaha – for example the hull of the FX HO designed for superior performance and speed, or the compact remote locking control unit. This not only disables or enables the ignition at the touch of a button; it can also activate a ‘Beginner Mode’ function to down-tune the power and performance capability, making the machine easier and more controllable for first-time riders or novices until they gain experience. Another press and full-on power instantly returns for use by the skilled rider.
All models offer the smoother, quieter, more economical riding experience that is the hallmark of all the Yamaha four-stroke WaveRunners, the outstanding Yamaha MR1 engine providing the foundation for stunning acceleration and high-end performance that has proved such a revelation, even to experienced riders, on their first exposure to these class-leading watercraft.

The new WaveRunner VX Deluxe
True affordability in four-stroke watercraft – that was the brief and that is what Yamaha has achieved with the launch of the exciting VX models. Completely all-new WaveRunners, from sleek hull to compact power unit. And in typical Yamaha style, the affordability has been achieved without stripping away the performance of the clean, quiet, smooth four-stroke engine or compromising our legendary reputation for turnkey reliability. Put simply, these are well engineered, solid, stylish WaveRunners with two different levels of specification and customer appeal and with up to 50% of the running cost of comparative competitor models. The VX Deluxe offers aggressive styling, exceptional performance and excellent all-round ability. plus the benefits of mirrors, reverse and remote locking security with innovative ‘beginner’ mode.
With these fabulous new four-strokes, Yamaha has simply confirmed its position as the undisputed world leader, not only in the personal watercraft market as a whole, but in the fastest-growing and most innovative part of the industry, the four-stroke segment.

WaveRunner GP1300R
In terms of pure, out-and-out speed and performance handling, the stunningly fast, fuel-injected GP1300R – the world’s most powerful two-stroke production watercraft – is still the leader of the musclecraft pack! 2005 sees a further boost to the high performance of the GP1300R – the combination of even more power from the engine and a new high output jet pump now delivers 170hp.Offering a combination of performance, handling and comfort, the GP1300R and the GP800R are excellent examples of the unmatched pedigree of performance and reliability inherent in every WaveRunner. These race-bred machines, with their surefooted handling and awesome acceleration and speed, have a dominant track record in international competition spanning many years, and the technical knowledge and experience gained from these racing successes is used to further develop the WaveRunner product line.
The GP 1300R features the very latest Yamaha Engine Management System (YEMS). Among its many talents, this computerised system controls and adjusts ignition timing, fuel injection mapping, engine diagnostics and off-throttle steering. This brilliant function activates when the operator releases the throttle lever but still needs to steer. So it helps the driver to execute a turn safely, even when decelerating. The GP 1300R is definitely a machine for the serious rider who wants a great-handling, powerful (and very fast) production watercraft.

17th February : MCA Release Search And Rescue Statistics.
The Maritime And Coastguard Agency today released its search and rescue figures for 2004.
Regrettably, the total number of recorded deaths is up on last year. However, the bulk of the increase is accounted for by suicide cases (up by 50%) and by the Morecambe Bay cockle pickers tragedy (which accounted for 21 deaths from a single incident).
Without those 21 deaths, other fatalities from direct marine accidents would have fallen significantly. A breakdown of the figures is shown below.
The numbers of people getting into difficulty and being assisted or actually rescued also fell by 13%. However hoax calls to the Coastguard were up from a recorded 232 in 2003 to 301 in 2004.
The figures are as follows:
2003 / 2004
Total reports to the Coastguard: 13,849 14,240
Total occasions of assistance rendered: 8,070 8,056
Total numbers of persons assisted (but not life threatening situations): 25,118 21,600
Total number of persons rescued (where life at risk): 5,689 5,276
Total recorded deaths (excluding suicides): 198 188
Of the fatalities recorded by the Coastguard:
96 were maritime-related
92 were recovered bodies
There were 176 suicides, or suspected suicides, in 2004 (118 in 2003)
Operations Director and Chief Coastguard, John Astbury said upon release of the figures:
“Accidents will always happen, and I would reiterate our message that no one should hesitate to contact HM Coastguard if they are in the slightest doubt about their own safety or the safety of others".
"There has been increased reporting from the general public and this is good news, given our efforts both to raise awareness of the Coastguard and its services, and encourage people to alert the Coastguard as quickly as possible, which can often lessen the severity of the outcome. It is encouraging that fewer people got into difficulty and needed our help in 2004, although, sadly, there has also been a rise in the number of suicides this year".
“I remain concerned that there continues to be a rise in the number of hoax calls. We are working with the other Emergency Services, to make use of advances in technology which will improve our ability to trace these calls and provide evidence to the Police for future prosecutions.”

11th February : Jets Marivent Appoints Two Irish Dealers.
Jets Marivent, sole UK and Eire distributor of Bombardier Recreational Products, have further strengthened their Irish distribution network by welcoming ‘Kilmore Jetworks Ltd’ in Co Farmanagh, Northern Ireland and ‘Viking Marine’ near Dublin, to their team of committed Irish dealers.
With more than 6500 kilometres of coastline, Ireland is often referred to as a heaven for watersport enthusiasts. Several activities including wakeboarding, water-skiing, windsurfing and jetskiing can be enjoyed for large parts of the year here, making it a key market for personal watercraft distributor Jets Marivent.
‘Viking Marine’ in Dun Laoghaire near Dublin, is one of Ireland’s largest chandlers. As a Johnson and Evinrude dealer, ‘Viking Marine’ is already on Jets Marivent’s list of trusted dealers and now they will be the first dealerships in the Republic of Ireland to carry the famous Seadoo brand.
Manufactured by Bombardier Recreational Products, Seadoo is firmly established as one of the leading names on the watersports scene. The PWCs, which are recognised worldwide for their innovative features and high quality, have received great acclaim from industry press over the years. The most recent example of this, dates no further back than January when the powerful Seadoo RXP was voted Watercraft of the Year by Watercraft World magazine.
Manager of ‘Viking Marine’, Shane Gray is thrilled to be including PWCs to his product range. “We will be introducing Sea-Doo to the Irish public at Dublin Boat Show on the 23rd of February and we are very proud to be carrying such a highly recognised brand. A new showroom and workshop dedicated especially to Seadoo, Johnson & Evinrude will soon be opening and we are very much looking forward to working with and promoting these quality products,” he says.
Lisnaskea, Co fermanagh, Northern Ireland is home of ‘Kilmore Jetworks Ltd’, which is strategically situated upon ‘Upper Lough Erne’, one of Europe’s largest waterways and a very popular summer & winter destination for many. The staff at ‘Kilmore Jetworks’ take pride in their vast experience and expertise in dealing with the sales and servicing of watersport equipment, in particular PWCs.
Directors Mark Sweeney and David Reid comment: “We have more than 15 years experience in this industry and have been running ‘Kilmore Jetworks’ for 12 months now. We are of course delighted to be given the opportunity to deal with such high standard PWCs - Seadoos and are positive that there is a great market for them here in Northern Ireland.”
When asked to comment on the issue, Mark Rowley, Seadoo Product and Sales Manager at Jets Marivent UK says: “Ireland is clearly a market in which we would like to make our products more visible and by appointing these dealers we are positive that we are moving in the right direction. Both new dealers have a great dialogue with their local markets which is essential to get the products recognised. Having already established a relationship with Viking Marine we are in no doubt that they will do a splendid job of promoting the Seadoo. Kilmore Jetworks have great experience and specialise in PWCs, therefore again we feel confident that we have chosen a tremendously qualified dealer to look after our customers in Northern Ireland.”

9th February : Cold Sea Killed Windsurf Champion.
A professional windsurfer died in the sea off the Sussex coast last June because he did not realise how cold the water was, an inquest has heard.
The body of Andy Funnell, 21, was washed up on the shore near Bexhill, eight days after he vanished while riding a jetski wearing only shorts.
An inquest on Tuesday heard he suffered a rare form of shock to his heart due to the sudden exposure to cold water.
A verdict of misadventure was recorded by the coroner at Eastbourne.
Speaking after the hearing his father, Trevor Funnell, said he had been surfing in the Mediterranean just two days before his death.
"He did not consider that the temperature was going to be so different," he said.
"It is just a moment's misjudgement. He did not realise how cold the sea really was.
"There is no confusion about what happened," he said.
The inquest at Eastbourne Magistrates Court heard how the British Windsurfing Champion died on one of the hottest days of the year.
Giving evidence, Thomas Chambers said his friend came off the 600c machine off the coast of Seaford, where he lived, at about 1900 BST on 15 June when the sea was very calm.
Other friends swam out to find him, while a search by coastguard and lifeboat teams was launched.
East Sussex coroner Alan Craze said Mr Funnell's death should act as a reminder to others about how dangerous the sea can be.
"This case should be a reminder that the sea is an extremely hostile place and must be approached with the greatest caution," he said.
Mr Funnell was introduced to windsurfing by his father at the age of nine and had competed in windsurfing championships all over the world.

3rd February : New Patrols Set To Make A Splash.
Police on jetskis are to patrol the Tyne on the lookout for terror threats during Labour's Spring Conference.
Northumbria Police have taken delivery of two of the jetskis, and one of their first tasks will be to monitor the river during the event.
The conference, Sage Gateshead, begins on 11 February.
The 1200cc injection machines can reach top speeds of 60mph and will also be used for general police patrols on the North East's rivers and coastline.
Sgt Rod Urquhart, of the force Marine Unit said: "At the moment we put officers on larger boats to carry out security checks on the rivers but we will now be able to do these on personal water crafts (PWC).
'Fast response'
"It gives us more flexibility and access to areas that the large craft are restricted from going to due to their size and draught.
"They will also be deployed as a fast response vessel to any suspicious incidents during the Labour Party Spring Conference."
As well as security patrols, the craft will be used to educate the public about the safe use of PWCs.
Sgt Urquhart said: "Jetskis are rapidly becoming more popular with professional and recreational users but we are finding that we are having to deal with more complaints about them.
"By using PWC it will be easier to engage with jetski users as they can identify with the officers. This can only help prevent incidents and make our rivers and coastline a safer place for all to enjoy."
